Thank you for your help.
The consistent and persistent message sent from the Amberley School Community Action Group was that relocation of the school was the only acceptable outcome of the State Government consultation process. Former Prime Minister John Howard made it clear that the action group’s message was understood clearly and allocated $26.8 million to the relocation of the Amberley School. Thank you for writing letters and providing signatures on petitions. The conversations and debates in newspapers and radio broadcasts was fantastic and kept the issue alive, perhaps much longer than anticipated. However, the fight is not over!
The Commonwealth Government has been more than generous and has listened to the community. The State Government is refusing to listen. Their push to build the school in a Yamanto is seen as necessary by the State Government in order to provide the places required for the growing population. There has been a shortfall for some time. Amberley closing should not be the cash cow to fund the State Government’s lack of planning. The Federal Government understood our desire to send our children to a small country feel school. Many of us live in Yamanto or Flinders View and choose to drive the 10 km to Amberley to have this environment. Similarly, the site they have chosen is less than 1km away from the existing small school, Churchill. It does not take too much imagination to foresee Churchill closing soon after the opening of the new school as large schools offer ‘economies of scale’ which are abundantly more important than quality of educational experience to the politicians in Brisbane. We need to get the message through AGAIN! Please write and email the following people. Get your friends and children to write too. Please pass on the message to anyone you know who has family or friends who attend Churchill School as well.We need the Federal Government to know clearly that this site is not suitable to the Amberley School Community. The State Government needs to clearly understand that community consultation does not mean asking us what the uniforms should look like!
